I have gotten a few questions about offices and what we're doing with them as we transition to our new agency plan. We are exploring our options but the idea is that our Family Development Specialists should be as closely aligned with Head Start centers as possible. We want Family Development Specialists to have the opportunity to interact with parents as frequently as possible to build a rapport with them outside of a formal visit. In a perfect world, the Head Start facilities would have plenty of space to add offices for Family Development Specialists, Community Organizers, and a few program staff here and there, but that is not our reality. We will be looking at the leases of our Family Resource Centers and the space available in Head Start centers in Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, and Osage Counties. We expect to save a little money in overhead costs that will go towards employee costs. It is important to note that we hope to honor our current leases so there will be no office closures before spring 2018 at the earliest. As we sort through our options I'll let you know when I make decisions about offices.
Angela, Brooke, and I met with representatives with Goodwill Industries (the new MWA contractor) and they are considering leasing office space from us in Columbia, Jefferson City, and maybe Fulton. Their employment package and salaries are very similar to ours and they are interested in the expertise of some of our MWA staff. I am hoping that we can co-locate in a few locations so that we can make our services available to MWA clients as seamlessly as possible. We should know by the end of the month if they plan to sub-lease from us.
We are delighted to announce that Brooke Eskridge will take on the role of Family and Community Partnership Administrator along side Tammy Hawk. Brooke and Tammy will be responsible for the direct supervision of the Family Development Specialists who will provide Family Development services to all Head Start, Early Head Start and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) families. The assignments for the FDS staff are nearly complete. Attached is the most recent assignments. We are waiting to finalize three of the assignments and expect these assignments to be finalized by the end of November.
Last, I hope you'll take a moment as you are enjoying your day off for Veteran's Day to remember the sacrifices that veterans have made over the last two centuries. Ours is not a perfect union but our freedoms are worth protecting. Winston Churchill said "democracy is the worst form of government . . . except for all the rest"!
Have a great weekend!
